Why does my blonde hair go brassy?

Brassy blonde hair sometimes feels like a lifelong battle. There are many reasons why your blonde hair goes brassy, including environmental factors, aftercare reasons and sometimes it's because of your hairstylist not understanding colour theory and how to lift your hair correctly.
This is why it's important to find the right blonde specialist for you and your hair goals and to take advice when it comes to the aftercare.

Top reason number 1- Your water. If you live in an area with hard water then you will experience your blonde hair turning brassy and drying out a lot quicker than someone who lives in an area with soft water.
Here in Ormksirk and the surrounding areas, our water is very hard and as a blonde babe myself I understand the struggles of hard water.
The solution is to install a water filter to your shower head. This has been a game-changer for me personally and all my clients who have made the upgrade.

Reason number 2- Daily or excessive heat styling. Heat does in fact, burn the hair and it makes your toner fade quicker.
I always recommend laying off the heat tools or reducing the temperature where possible and using a heat protector.
My favourite heat protector is the Maria Nila Cream Heat Spray it's used in the salon, smells absolutely delicious and all our clients love it.

Reason number 3 - Your stylist didn't actually lift your blonde light enough to remove all the warmth from your hair. This is quite common and I see it in most of my new clients A combination of serious breakage and yet still lots of remaining warmth. The reason for this is usually because they've been delivering a standard full head of foil hi-lighgts and low-lights for years on autopilot. They're typically using an ammonia-based colour and unfortunately, these fade warm and cause low-level abrasion to your hair.
Hair needs to be lifted to a pale yellow to achieve a desired brass-free tone. Lifting hair to this level requires expertise so that its lifted enough to be light but not pushed too far or the hair will end up broken, dry and extremely compromised.
This is why in our salon in Ormskirk, we use K18, Olaplex and other bond builders to protect your hair during colour services
